-

The Spanish senate voted the NATO accession protocol for Macedonia’s membership. Spain was the last of NATO’s members that hadn’t yet ratified the protocol. After the ratification, the Protocol in Madrid has yet to be signed by the Spanish king, and then the document will be deposited at the State Department. With this act, Macedonia will official become NATO’s 30th member.

The Spanish Senate has for the first tie in its history held a session through a video conference and all of its members voted in favor of the Accession Protocol. The voting process in Madrid was followed by the Macedonian Foreign Affairs Minister Nikola DImitrov and the Ambassador of Spain in Macedonia, Emilio Lorenzo Serra.

Dimitrov expressed his gratitude to Spain which in such difficult circumstances with the coronavirus has held the session at the Spanish Senate and voted in favor of Macedonia’s membership into NATO.
