The debate on the selection of Special Prosecutor Katica Janeva’s team was not on the agenda of today’s session at the Council of Public Prosecutors, said Council’s Chairman Peter Anevski. At the session, one of the members of the Council proposed to consider a request to Janevki, but President Anevski gave an explanation that in the letter the special prosecutor had sent to him with her requests, she had listed the same Prosecutors names and did not give an explanation why the she requires an increase of her team.
“The letter from the Special Prosecutor listed the same names without explanation, with only a few words, and modified dates, just the proposal to vote. It was decided that this item shall not be placed on of today’s agenda”, said Mr Anevski.
He said that the Council is at the Special Prosecutors disposal and if Ms Janeva had an increase in the volume of cases and there is a real need for additional staff, they will again schedule a session to decide whether an increase in the number of prosecutors in her team.
– As far as I know, there are about 28 cases. If the number of cases increases, for example from 120, to 150, of course, we would make the decision on the number of prosecutors to change. The door to the Council of Public Prosecutors is always open to Katica Janeva. At any time she can come and talk to find a way out of this crisis, in fact it is not a crisis, but it is necessary for the Council of Public Prosecutors and its her obligation for such unpleasant situations not to come to this”, said Anevski.
At the session, as indicated by Anevski representatives of the OSCE and the US Embassy in Macedonia were present.
When asked by journalists whether he and the Council of Public Prosecutors considered the letter sent from the four political parties Anevski said they were an independent institution that does not work on political recommendations.
“There is no concept to act on recommendations from political parties. The letter was delivered to the Minister of Justice, we have sent it to Ms Janeva, but she submitted the same list of candidates on which we had already decided on”, said Chairman of the Council of Public Prosecutors.
