Skopje is already under lockdown due to the papal visit, and a special traffic regime is applied

-

During the last several days, the central area of Skopje is under lockdown and fenced in because of Pope Francis’ visit tomorrow, when special rules of restricted movement will be applied with increased security measures.

Tomorrow, starting at 06 am and until 7 pm, the Skopje’s central area will have a ban and a limitation of traffic, and all traffic will be diverted towards roads around the city’s center.

“The citizens that reside in the central city area, if they want to use their vehicles tomorrow we appeal that they pull them out of the restrictive zone today as otherwise, they will not be able to pull them out of the zone during the special traffic regime. All parking lots will be free” informs the government.

The government also recommend that the citizens should use public transportation which will be free.

Since access to the airport at certain intervals will be closed, we appeal to the citizens to get information when they will be able to access the airport and to embark earlier.

All citizens who live and work close to the Macedonia square will have open access to their homes i.e. workplaces by passing through one of the entrances. It is important they should carry ID documents.

Inside the zone, they will have free access to all locations except to the closed zone at the square, for which a ticket will be needed to attend the mass. All access to motor vehicles, bikes, mopeds and similar vehicles will be banned inside the secured zone named “Small Ring.”
