The President of the Association of Journalists, Naser Selmani, and the President of the Independent Union of Journalists and Media Workers Tamara Chausidis, today before the MPs Clubhouse, where talks were being held regarding media reforms, once again confirmed the view of the associations, that they will not accept any form of government advertising.
Selmani said he had heard speculation that in the negotiations there was a proposal which provides the legalization of government advertising, but with the possibility for later down the line.
“The impact of these ads is harmful not to mention big. They contribute to the unprofessional ‘controlled’ media. With the citizens money, the media is being corrupted”, said Selmani.
He turned to Belgian mediator in the talks Peter Vanhoutte, and asked him not to allow his signature to legitimize a decision that is bad and portrays to everyone that something in the field of media is changing, when actually, everything is the same. Selmani said that they are not against institutions helping the media, but just not with government advertising.
