SEC will request a delay in elections because of discrepancies in the number of voters in the constituencies

-

Members of the State Election Commission (SEC) will request to changes the electoral code from Parliament Speaker Trajko Veljanoski.

The changes are required because there were discrepancies in the number of voters in three constituencies – the third, fourth and sixth. The SEC concluded that there are inconsistencies from at least five percent in the number of voters in these constituencies.

According to the Electoral Law, the number of voters in all six constituencies should be approximately the same and must not differ by more than five percent between the two constituencies. However, according to the current electoral roll, the number of voters in the sixth constituency is much larger than the number of voters from electoral districts one and two.

There request was on the agenda and the Democratic Union for Integration’s agenda, but have not placed it on the agenda yet. According to information, this is another step on political parties under international pressure to postpone the date of elections and to re-convene Parliament.

At today’s meeting, the SEC decided that no conditions to hold elections with the Diaspora because they fewer voters (5,343) were reported than the required minimum of 6,500 voters.

The session was attended by the two members of the SEC from the SDSM who have been absent for weeks.

This means that the Parliament will have to act upon the decision of the SEC and Veljanoski will have to schedule a meeting.
