A major flood of the river Bregalnica is expected in Shtip and that three settlements – 8 Noemvri, Chardaklija and Novo Selo – would be flooded.
Worrying is the situation with the dam Kalimanci where 50 cubic meters of water per second are currently poured out.
The national crisis headquarters is currently in session in Shtip. Minister of Transport and Communications Mile Janakieski, all mayors from the eastern region, as well as directors of public companies are preparing a plan and a strategy for dealing with the situation.
It is also expected Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski to arrive in Stip.
Mayor Ilcho Zahariev urged citizens to go out and get involved in making embankments.
“Dam Mantovo is once again on the verge of overflowing due to the heavy rainfall that lasted throughout the night. The water level is critical and already there is a danger of overflowing. All residents of Lakavica region should be cautious and monitor the water level of river Lakavichka, which level is expected to rise. Residents should protect estates and livestock,” reads the joint statement of the Municipality of Shtip.
