Refugees in Idomeni claim that they were beaten by Macedonian police

-

Thirty refugees in Idomeni claim that they were physically attacked by Macedonian police for attempting to cross the border into Macedonia illegally. Greek media reported on this incident according to information from the volunteers of the organization “Doctors without Borders”.
A representative of the organization said that 33 people from different countries, aged 17 to 29, on Saturday tried to enter Macedonia illegally. According to them,  they were attacked and beaten by Macedonian police. The refugees also claim that not only were they physically attacked but had all their money and valuables taken from them.
The Ministry of Interior said that at this point in time they have no information about such an incident. They did say that until now speculations of that nature occasionally appear from humanitarian organizations which the MOI have denied.
“If there is evidence of such a case, they need to inform us so we can check and take appropriate measures”, responded the MOI.
Greek police, however, have arrested three Greek nationals, who encouraged refugees to protest on the Macedonian border and railway.
In the camp in the past few days various incidents have been reported of physical violence among refugees, as they clash for food and refugees from different nationalities argue and fight.
