Working group to prepare a new law on higher education

-

A working group composed of representatives of the University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” (UKIM), including “Student plenum” and “Professorial plenum”, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science (MES), will analyze the situation in the next 30 days, which should then result in a new Law on Higher Education, is the conclusion of today’s several-hour debate among concerned parties at the UKIM Rector’s Office.

The conclusions of the debate were announced in a short statement.

“Based on the presentations, it was agreed through open dialogue to reach common solutions for improvement and quality assurance in higher education. In this respect, it was concluded to form a working group with representatives of the University, including student and professorial plenums, as well as representatives of MES, which within 30 days will prepare an analysis of the situation on the basis of which it will define the concept for the preparation of legal texts for higher education. At the same time, it was agreed a meeting in the same composition to be held in the coming days,” reads the statement of UKIM Rector Velimir Stojkovski which was given to the reporters after the debate.

The debate was attended by Minister of Education and Science Abdilakim Ademi, his deputy Spiro Ristoski, and Finance Minister Zoran Stavreski, who shunned reporters.

The meeting, on which attitudes regarding reforms and how it should result in better quality higher education were presented, lasted four and a half hours, and after its conclusion, neither the rector nor representatives of “Student plenum” gave any statements.
