Prosecution launch pre-trial procedure against Ivanov for violating the Constitution

-

The Skopje Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened a case against President Gjorge Ivanov, regarding two criminal charges related to the non-signing of the Law on Languages and the Prespa Agreement.

The case is in the pre-trial procedure and actions are being taken to check the allegations in the application. Data and information from the Parliament of Macedonia and the President’s Office were asked for when the decisions in the legislature made, and for what reasons were they not signed by the President.

Ivanov did not sign the Law on the Ratification of the Prespa Agreement, although it was voted twice in Parliament, despite the presidential right to “suspend” and not for an “absolute” veto. Earlier, he did the same on the Law on the Use of Languages. Therefore, these two regulations have not yet been published in the “Official Gazette” and can not enter into force.
