Institute for Macedonian language “Krste Misirkov” today harshly reacted to the project of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), according to which, Macedonian language and dialects are an integral part of the Bulgarian dialectology.
As previously reported by META, on 8th of December, BAS promoted Internet audio map, which includes areas that are not within the state borders of Bulgaria, such as parts of Macedonia, the Aegean region, a small part of Albania, the southern parts of Serbia, Turkey and Romania.
“It is unreasonable that, in the second decade of the XXI century, young Bulgarian linguists serve a failed megalomaniac idea of politicians from the XIX century and their dream of San Stefano Bulgaria, which included ethnic Macedonia. It is unreasonable because young Bulgarian linguists born after World War II, should not be burdened with the policies of their predecessors, who faithfully served narrow-minded Bulgaria, which, with rare exceptions, could neither think nor work freely in the field of linguistics”, reads the statement of the Institute for Macedonian language.
According Macedonists, the project is proof that young Bulgarian linguists are continuing the tradition of their predecessors.
“Even with funding from the European Social Fund of the European Union, young Bulgarian linguists continue to fiercely deny the independence of the Macedonian dialect system. With the announcement of “map of dialect division of the Bulgarian language”, in which they declared the Macedonian dialects as part of Bulgarian language, they only confirm that the Latin phrase “wolf can change its fur, but not its character”,” reads the statement.
