Representatives of the “Professorial plenum” today sent a letter to the President of the Republic of Macedonia, Gjorgje Ivanov, requesting a meeting on which the representatives of the professorial and the student plenum would explain their views on the proposed amendments to the Law on higher education, which will soon be put on the agenda of the Assembly.
“Awaiting the parliamentary session on which is expected a set of proposed laws in the field of education to be passed, we address you as the President of the Republic, as well as our colleague and professor, with a request to meet the representatives of both plenums and listen to our arguments that the proposed laws are flagrantly violating the Constitution, human rights, as well as European and international documents that highlight the university’s autonomy and the principles of quality assurance in higher education”, reads the letter.
“Student plenum” and “Professorial plenum” request first a thorough analysis of the situation in higher education to be prepared and then to organize debates on campus, which will include the entire academic community.
