Prime Minister of North Macedonia: We don’t need the EU at the cost of the Macedonian language and identity

-

We don’t need the European Union at the cost of the Macedonian identity and language, since we shall be like dust lost to the wind even after we join the EU, said today Prime Minister of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev during his visit to Resen.

He is hoping that a solution will be found for the dispute with Bulgaria in the next several months, even though this country will have to go through new elections.

“The problem is irrational and we have to find a solution. It is in Bulgaria’s interest for North Macedonia to become a member of the European Union and to be integrated into the international organizations, such as the EU,” said Zaev.

Yesterday in Skopje, the European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi stated that North Macedonia could be separated from the package with Albania if it doesn’t succeed to make a deal with Bulgaria regarding the problematic issues.

“This is a process that is based on achievement. Albania has managed to meet the conditions, but if there is no agreement for North Macedonia I think there will be a moment when we shall be analyzing this option, as well,” said Várhelyi.
