Today, Parliament Speaker, Talat Xhaferi announced that the presidential elections will be called on February the 8th. The first round of elections will be on April the 21st, and the second round on May the 5th.

Xhaferi said that the first round was initially planned to take place on the April the 14th and the latter on April the 28th, but because it coincides with Easter, the elections were moved a week later.

He added that in that case, the deadline for the inauguration of the new president will be on the May the 12th, because on that date Gjorge Ivanov’s mandate ends.

Together with the presidential elections, local elections will be held in three municipalities, which are now governed by acting mayors.
