Republic of Macedonia prematurely settled the debt for precautionary credit line in the amount of 312 million US dollars to the IMF, thus saving five million euros, informed Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Zoran Stavreski. With yesterday’s transaction in Washington in the amount of 174 million dollars, the entire debt of the credit line is paid and it was done because of the growth rate of the US dollar against the euro.
– In recent months, there is a growth rate of the US dollar against the euro and other currencies, which, analysts say, will continue in the next period as well. Predictions are that the value of the dollar against the euro will rise even by 10 percent by the end of 2016 – said Stavreski.
With the early settlement of the debt to the IMF, five million euros of interest and exchange rate differences were saved, the image of the country was improved, and Government’s debt was reduced by 1.7 percentage points.
The first part of the debt of the precautionary credit line of 138 million dollars was returned in 2014, and the remaining 174 million dollars were paid yesterday.
