The conditions for solving the name dispute are more mature now, according to the Macedonian Foreign Minister Nikola Popovski.
With less than five days before his visit to Athens and his meeting with his Greek counterpart Nikos Kotzias, Minister Popovski in an interview with the Greek newspaper “Kathimerini” and “Real” points to the need for greater cooperation, but also said that Macedonia has made a number of compromises in the negotiations.
Minister Popovski promises that this will not be the only a formal visit, but because it is the first official visit of a Macedonian Foreign Minister after a decade . He points out that Macedonia has sincere willingness for cooperation and friendship with Greece.
“I think that there should be no hostility between us. On the contrary, in the past 20 years both countries shown have much they have in common. According to our similar behaviour and mindset one might say that we are first cousins”, Popovski said to the paper “Kathimerini”, commenting that both countries have good cooperation in tourism and the economy.
However, as to the name dispute, Minister Popovski said that Macedonia has made many compromises, and despite this list of demands from the Greeks the list seems to never end.
