The new measures voted out, 38 MPs turned their back on Tsipras

-

With 228 votes “FOR”, the Greek Parliament passed the new package measures. 54 MPs voted against the measures, and there were six abstentions. Although the measures were passed with majority, almost historic, this vote was withering for the Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and SYRIZA. 38 MPs from the leftist party did not support the measures, which set a serious blow to parliamentary unity and support for Tsipras and sets a dilemma what will happen next with the government and the political party.

Former Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis, president of the assembly, Zoe Konstantopoulou, Minister Panagiotis Lafazanis and four ministers and former Deputy Finance Minister Nadia Valavani voted against the measures. Kyriakos Mitsotakis from the opposition was the only one who voted against the measures.

The Prime Minister Tsipras stressed before the vote that a vote “against” is a vote against the leftist government, and that he would take responsibility for everything, but will not be the one to bring down the first left-wing government.

After this great loss of almost 40 MPs, remains an open question, what are the next the steps of Tsipras about the government, or whether it will be decide to make a reconstruction and, if so, how drastic it would be.
