Laying flowers, the promise of a better future, patriotism and proud to be Macedonian. With these words of Politicians met citizens and celebrated September the 8th – Independence Day.
Some spoke of how Macedonia has become a better place after 24 years of Independence, others discussed how to improve the lives of citizens and the country’s future.
Delegations from the ruling party VMRO-DPMNE today lay flowers at the feet monument of fallen soldiers at “Women’s Park.”
Delegations from the opposition SDSM lay flowers at the tomb of the first president of Macedonia, Kiro Gligorov, and also at the monument of fallen soldiers at “Women’s Park” and leader Zoran Zaev today will celebrate with citizens at Three Pears.
Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski will address citizens in a ceremony at the Macedonian National Theatre.
Smaller political parties, Ministers, Directors, Mayors and other Officials are also celebrating today’s national holiday.
Unlike politicians, citizens are celebrating differently as seen on various social networks.
For example, the activist Damir Neziri congratulated his fellow citizens by showing a video that show water tap’s in Tetovo, from which hardly a few drops of water leak.
On the social media ‘Facebook’ site, it reads, “In 25 years of Independence, our political parties have expelled more people than the Ottoman’s managed during 5 centuries of slavery.”
Leftist movement “Solidarity” wrote “25 years of moving backwards, September 8th is a good date to see where we were the past and where we are now. Compared to 1990, the last year for which CPM data is available, distinct backsliding is evident in all the most important segments of life, living standards, unemployment, inequality, health, education, rather than independence, all we have received is another setback. It is time things changed! We do not miss the past we want the possibility of a better future. “
