Plomp: If SPO cannot carry out what it was established to do, there will be no end to the crisis

-

Last night, the Dutch Ambassador Wouter Plomp talked on “Faktor 24” TV show on TV 24, and said that the whole process in Przino will be in vain if the Special Public Prosecution doesn’t investigate the serious allegations of corruption and criminal activity that have resulted from the wiretapped conversations.

– The Special Public Prosecution was established to thoroughly investigate these findings and to bring them to justice. What we have been seeing in the last months or a year is what it was described in the State Department’s report which said that it is clear that there is a coordinated campaign to decrease SPO’s credibility and professionalism. That is serious. If SPO won’t be able to carry out what it was founded for, to thoroughly investigate the findings, then it seems the whole process in Przino was in vain. Therefore, unless SPO doesn’t carry out what it was founded for, there won’t be an end to this crisis. I think it is important that the SPO’s team should continue with its work as long as it is necessary. Certainly, the Parliament should decide about the mandate, but after all, the institution should be carry out its work and not be hindered by other institutions – said Plomp.

The Dutch Ambassador stressed that it is very dangerous to use inter-ethnic tensions to distort the political attention
-The inter-ethnic relations can be very sensitive, and Macedonia is not the only country where that is the case. In circumstances like that, the politicians will have to be very careful what language will they be using. That is the main message from Lamberto Zannier. Generally speaking, I think we should carefully think about what has caused the crisis two years ago. Much progress has been made in the solving of the crisis on the basis of the Przino agreement, but let’s not forget how this started. It started with impunity and a great lack of accountability. Until that is solved, there won’t an end to the crisis – said Plomp.

According to the Dutch Ambassador, the fastest way out of the crisis is by forming a new government.

-Regardless if it comes from the EU, NATO, USA or OSCE, the message is very clear – forming a new government on basis of the election results, is the fastest way of getting out of the crisis. The elections are not about winning but also for forming coalitions. In the end, it’ about the majority coalition that will have to form a new government. The new government will have to be formed on the basis of the election results on the 11th of December and to start implementing reforms – said Plomp.
