“The new government has to set its priorities, but if you are asking me, I would say that the first priority should be the improvement of the living standards for all the citizens of this country,” said the Ambassador of Netherlands in Macedonia, Wouter Plomp in a weekly interview for “Radio Free Europe”
As priorities, the Ambassador also mentioned the rule of law, the transparency, inclusivity and the general implementation of the reforms that will allow Macedonia to enter into the European Union and NATO.
“All of the reforms that are necessary for the entrance into the EU should be implemented primarily because of the Union but for the benefit of the citizens themselves. Macedonia has many friends including the EU member countries. And I am very proud because my country Netherlands is your partner for 26 years” said Plomp.
He also said that Macedonia has been waiting too long at NATO’s waiting room, while many of the reforms were ready and that NATO’s entrance may be even faster, and that is a significant encouragement.
Regarding the solution of the name dispute with Greece, Plomp said that with the election of the new government there is a new impulse and new possibilities are opening up. He thinks that it is in the interest of the international community to help and to support these efforts” said Plomp.
Regarding SPO’s work, he stressed that it should be allowed to fulfill the important role that it was assigned to do.
“It is not only about holding elections and the election of a new government but also for determining the truth and for determining the responsibility because I strongly believe that the policy of non-punishment will only prolong the political crisis,” said Plomp.
Regarding the improvement of the condition with the media, the Ambassador has stressed that what is necessary is a discussion with the representatives of the media, analyzing the current situation and implementation of the current laws.
