Parliament of North Macedonia elects new Commission for Prevention and Protection against Discrimination

-

With 61 votes in favor and without any votes against or withheld, the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia yesterday adopted the decision for the election of the seven members of the Commission for Prevention and Protection against Discrimination.

Previously, the Association ESE and the Network for Protection Against Discrimination insisted that the manner of placing party personnel in the Commission must stop and a transparent and accountable procedure for the appointment of its members to be the method of electon.

The Law on Prevention and Protection from Discrimination was adopted in October 2020 after it was returned for re-vote in the Parliament. The law was initially abolished in May 2020 with a decision from the Supreme Court, as in 2019 it wasn’t adopted with the required parliamentary majority.
