Over 2.2 million EUR were transferred to the Railways of North Macedonia for construction of Kumanovo-Beljakovce railroad

-

In June, the Ministry for Transport and Communications of North Macedonia has transferred over 2.2. million EUR from EBRD’s loan on the account of the Public Enterprise “Railways of RNM – Infrastructure”, data at open.finance.gov.mk shows. Out of loan’s amount of 46.2 million EUR that the country took in 2012, during the first half of the year, the public enterprise received six transfers for financing the construction of the rail section in a length of 30.8 km.

It’s about one-quarter of the total assets that Railways of RNM – Infrastructure should receive this year for the construction of this project (around 9 million EUR) and were inserted in the Railways of RNM – Infrastructure’s revised business plan for 2020. While the Ministry of Transport and Communications has been paying the money for the investor in the construction of this railroad line, it remains unclear why the contractor on the 29th of May has submitted a notification for canceling the agreement for building of the rail section from Kumanovo to Beljakovce railroad.

Meta.mk has sent several questions to previous contractor Vibe in Germany concerning this project, but we received up to the moment when this article was published we received no answers about the reasons for their decision to cancel the agreement for completion of the project’s first phase for railroad connection with Bulgaria. The only information we received was from Railways of RNM – Infrastructure which confirmed that a new tender for the selection of a contractor will have to be announced.
