-

Assistant US Secretary of State Victoria Nuland today, after the meeting with Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, voiced hope that the political crisis in the country will be soon resolved.

– It is time to end the crisis. We, the United States, are very pleased to work with the EU. Ambassador Bailey is working together with EU Commissioner Hahn to bring the parties to find a solution that will allow Macedonia to return on the selected path to Euro-Atlantic integration, the road of good and clean government, rule of law and media freedom, all those things that are important for the country. We strongly support the package of measures that were established on 2nd of June. A few more questions that need to be addressed remained – said Nuland.

Nuland said the United States strongly support tomorrow’s negotiations, which will be led by Hahn.

– Today I spent the day in talks with interested parties and the PM in order to reduce the gap and reach an agreement – Nuland said, adding that the United States for 20 years are friends and supporters of Macedonia, regardless of who is in power in the country.

Gruevski said that European values are a guide for the Government in resolving the political crisis.
– EU values are a guide to address the ongoing political ordeals, which is only possible as a legal, political and institutional decision – said Gruevski.

The Prime Minister said that, at the meeting, it was discussed about Macedonia to join NATO as soon as possible, the need for immediate commencement of negotiations for EU membership, as well as trade between the US and Macedonia.
