North Macedonia registers 2.676 new COVID-19 cases and 49 deaths in one week

During the period between 12 and 18th of October, 13.213 materials were tested in the laboratories which detect the presence of SARS-CoV-2. 2.676 new positive cases were registered in 34 cities in North Macedonia, with an increase of 19.3% compared to the week before. Most of the cases were registered in Skopje (51.4%) and the highest weekly incidence was registered in Gevgelija – 228.3/100,000, informed the Health Ministry, quoting the report by the Public Health Institute.

The Institute stressed that the percentage of positive cases out of all tested for the given period is 20.3 %.

The most affected age group is the one between 30-39 (20.9%). A large number of the infections were also registered among persons in the following age groups: 40-49 (19.5%), 20-29 (17.6%), above 60 (17.5), and 50-59 (16.6 %). The least number was registered among children aged 0-9 (3%) and 10-19 (5%).

The Institute states that 49 deaths were reported in 16 cities, an increase of 58.1 % compared to the week before. Regarding the age, 38 persons were aged above 60, 9 persons were aged between 50-59, and 2 deaths were reported in the age group between 40-49. Chronic diseases were registered among 35 persons who passed away.
