The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) issued a reaction regarding the noncompliance to the endorsed usage of the constitutional name of North Macedonia at the constitutive sessions of the Councils of the Municipality of Shtip and the Municipality of Aerodrom, i.e. during the signing of the oath of office by the new councilors, the former name of the country – the Republic of Macedonia – was used.
The ministry stressed that according to the Laws on the ratification of the Prespa Agreement and on the constitutional changes dating from January 2019, the country’s constitutional name is Republic of North Macedonia and all state institutions and local self-government units are obliged to obey the Constitution of the Republic of North Macedonia. They are also obliged to adjust all legislature that is adopted in accordance with the constitution.
The Macedonian Foreign Affairs Ministry has called upon all institutions, especially the Ministry of Local Self-Government to act in this case in accordance with their competencies.
