New tensions in Idomeni, refugees push old wagon on the railway towards armored vehicles

-

The situation remains tense in Idomeni after yesterday’s clashes. Today a group of refugees gathered again at the fence and demanded the Macedonian police open the border.

Today’s communication, however, is still calm. Refugees demanded the Macedonian police to let them through, commenting that they were not terrorists. The response from the Macedonian side was that the border can not be opened and the refugees were asked to withdraw from the fence.

Earlier, a group of refugees made their way through in an old wagon on the railway and managed to come in close vicinity of the camp on the Macedonian border, where armored police vehicles were set up by the Greek police.

Refugees seeking for the borders to be opened had with them Greek and German flags, which again raised suspicion of the Greek police that potential activists encouraged the refugees to protest.

From the 11,000 refugees in Idomeni, today 180 refugees, mostly from Syria, decided to leave the camp in buses provided by the Greek government, and were transferred to a new refugee center near Athens.
