New Democracy reacts to the EU over the fence on the Macedonian-Greek border

-

Greek opposition New Democracy criticized the Macedonian decision to raise a fence on the border with Greece to a European level. The MEP of the right-wing party, Maria Spiraki refered a question to the European Commission’s decision on whether raising a fence is in line with the EU guidelines in dealing with the refugee crisis.

Spiraki goes further, seeking an explaination and on whether the fence is being built with European funds.

“Does the Commission confirm that protecting the borders of FYROM is being built with European money? Does the Commission considers that the raising of a fence on the border with Greece is in line with the spirit of the integration process and EU and use the European funds for this purpose?” Asks Spiraki in her letter to the Commission.

The MEP requested an explanation whether the Commission will take any actions to prevent the spending of European money that is not is part of Europe’s strategy for dealing with the refugees crisis.

Ms Maria Spiraki will visit Skopje soon as part of the Joint Committee of the EU and Macedonia.
