Negotiations between the parties of the right opposition bloc for joint participation in the upcoming elections on December 11 came to a standstill and it is unknown whether or when they will continue. According to Nikola Tasev, an executive board member of the VMRO-People’s Party and negotiator in the working groups, after three days of negotiations, no progress has been made from the standstill.
“No agreement has been made of any issue. VMRO-NP, Ljube Boshkoski’s United for Macedonia, and Stojanche Angelov’s Dignity during these negotiations have insisted that an agreement be reached, thereby making concessions only to form a coalition. Unfortunately, the other side, for three days now have constantly been making new requirements. That is why negotiations have been suspended and it is unknown whether and when they will continue and we are closer to forming right wing opposition bloc with only VMRO-NP, Dignity and OM (United for Macedonia), who will independently run at the next election”, said Tasev.
He also dismissed speculation that VMRO-NP did not want to sign a document that said after the elections they would not join a coalition with the VMRO-DPMNE.
“That was never discussed. For three days we have been stuck on the first issue, which was the distribution of mandates of parliamentary lists, so we have not had the time to even discuss this matter”, Tasev said.
Although the VMRO-People’s Party on Friday decided to join the right-wing opposition bloc, negotiations became futile. The agreed coalition was first with Kekenovski’s FRODEM and the Democratic Alliance lead by Pavle Trajanov before negotiations came to a stop.
On Tuesday, however, after a tense two-hour session of the Executive Board, VMRO-NP did not make a decision as to which coalition the party would join and who they will support in the early parliamentary elections on December 11.
At the time, members decided to give party leader Ljubco Georgievski a few more days, in order to bring a definitive solution.
