MRT’s debt makes media reforms more difficult, the government have not yet discussed the issue

The government is aware of the situation Macedonian Radio-Television has with debt, but until now there has been no discussion regarding this problem, said Government spokesman Mile Bosnjakovski today.

He added that the debt additionally is complicating the media reform.

“We are aware of the situation. Media reform is underway according to Priebe’s recommendations. The debt itself is something that additionally makes things more difficult, but at the moment we have not yet discussed MRT’s debt. Additionally, it will be discussed. All working groups are working, media reforms are still under preparation. It is expected to be ready by the end of the year”, said Bosnjakovski.

Macedonian Radio-Television is no longer able to use the services of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) due to the unpaid debt, which is approximaetley 500,000 euros.

The Association of Journalists of Macedonia (AJM) yesterday urged the Government to urgently, as soon as possible, provide money to settle the debt, and the MRT Program Council at its meeting yesterday came to an identical conclusion.
