MPs vote on amendments to the Electoral Code

-

Last night, MPs voted, and the results were; with 92 votes “for”, three “against” and one “abstention”, with a fast track procedure, they voted for the amendments to the Electoral Code, which was submitted by MPs Ilija Dimovski from the VMRO-DPMNE party, Goran Sugareski of the SDSM, Artan Grubi from the DUI, and Imer Aliu from the DPA.

The amendment to the Electoral Code are part of the latest agreement that the four parties reached on Wednesday because they all have concluded that this is the only way out of the political crisis.

“The law is short and consists of three members. Given that the obligation was accepted by the four political parties, deadline need to be observed, I suggest we vote today”, said Dimovski.

Solza Grcheva, an independent MP said that the agreement between the political parties is a farce and that the number of disputed voters on the electoral roll is ridiculous. According to her, the solution to this issue is ta carry out a national census, and not to cleanse the electoral roll.

“The Przino Agreement is a farce, and it continues, I do not know why a whole year has gone by with a new composition of the SEC, and for all that what did we get? 39.500 questionable voters. Everyone knows that Macedonia can not have 1.8 million voters, however, all of you signed the agreement. I do not understand why these voters would have active registration status. This whole situation is a complete shambles and does not happen anywhere in the world. The figure is ridiculous. I call on these citizens, that if they turn up at their local polling station with valid ID, and they are not on the electoral roll, to sue the parties. The citizens are the real victim, because of their irresponsible behaviour”, says Grčeva.

Earlier, DUI MP Talat Xhaferi proposed that the draft bill be withdrawn from the agenda due to technical errors and to synchronize the text, but his proposal was not accepted.

The Coordinator of the Parliamentary Group of the SDSM Goran Sugareski, at a press conference, said the agreement that the parties had reached two days ago provided deadlines and decisions on all issues, and that the SDSM will insist they be respected so elections can be held in December.
