Following the assessments, the Interior Ministry has increased the level of security in the country.
“In connection with yesterday’s terrorist attacks in Paris, the Republic of France, and in order to oversee the situation we are raising the level of security and mobility of the police”, said the Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski held a staff meeting with the leaders in the highests places in the Interior Ministry. In addition, the staff meeting, although it was noted that there is currently no specific threat to the security of the citizens of Macedonia, several conclusions were adopted, which will be implemented immediately.
Among other things, security will be strengthened in and around the buildings where police are; measures and activities in securing public gatherings will be strengthened and sporting events in which the presence of a larger number of citizens will also be strengthened; there will be more control and checks over migrants who enter into the Republic of Macedonia, especially in the temporary transit centre in Gevgelija, and the northern and southern borders, covered by the declaration of a state of emergency, “said a statement from the Interior Ministry.
In addition to this situation, President Gjorge Ivanov, on today’s tour of the southern border, announced that tonight he will convene with the Security Council because of deepening refugee crisis.
“The Army is already alarmed at the amount of people coming out of the “quota 59” and illegally entering through crossings are not marked, and we are not aware of. It will involve taking special measures by the ARM (Army of the Republic of Macedonia) in order to direct those people who are avoiding to be registered. Once someone has avoided being registered it gives reasonable doubt about whether that person has good intentions” said President Ivanov.
The situation is further aggravated due to the terrorist attacks in Paris, whose death toll is now more than 160 people and more than 200 wounded.
