Mitchell reaffirms support from US for Macedonia’s membership into NATO and EU during meeting with Dimitrov

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Dimitrov had a meeting today with the US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Euro-Asian affairs, Wess Mitchell, where they discussed Macedonia’s Euro-Atlantic perspectives including the current political situation in the country and the region, reports the MFA.

Dimitrov stressed the importance of the ongoing support from the USA in the process of Macedonia’s Euro-Atlantic integrations and the cooperation based on strategic partnership.

“Our deserved membership in the Alliance will significantly contribute to the building of a prosperous and more secure Republic of Macedonia, which will be of importance to the entire region,”said Dimitrov.

The US Assistant Secretary of State, Wess Mitchell, reaffirmed the strong support from the US for a fully-fledged membership of the Republic of Macedonia in NATO and the EU.

“He greeted the efforts of the Republic of Macedonia on its journey, especially concerning the constructive policy with its neighbors including the agreement for providing a solution for the name dispute with Greece. In this context, he repeated the expectations for a successful referendum and an implementation of the Agreement with Greece, in order to conclude the process of joining NATO and the EU,” read the press release issued by Dimitrov’s office.
