During yesterday’s leadership meeting, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and VMRO-DPMNE’s party leader, Hristijan Mickoski agreed to form working groups at the Parliament for the adoption of the Law on Public Prosecution but were not able to agree upon SPO’s team. Mickoski demands that Katica Janeva and her team be removed from SPO while Zaev said that everyone voted for that team back in 2015.
-We all voted for this SPO back in 2015. SPO will be integrated into the country’s prosecution system, but for that process, certain deadlines will have to be met. I believe that we shall secure a two-thirds majority for SPO. My sincere wish is that it will be accomplished with a consensus. If there is no consensus, as a government, we shall do everything in our power for the necessary majority to be reached – said Zaev.
Mickoski said that the opposition wants to start talks in order to solve SPO’s status but Katica Janeva mustn’t be at the helm of that prosecution because “she has lost her credibility.”
Regarding the elections, Mickoski announced coordination between the election headquarters of the government and the opposition, and also said that there are a lot of flaws in the pre-election period, as employment in the public administration and transfers from the local municipalities to the state government, including promotional activities even though the campaign hasn’t started yet.
The opposition leader said that he spoke to Zaev on two topics – creating conditions for fair and democratic elections and the reformatory agenda for starting of the EU negotiations. Miskoski has stressed that the opposition is a victim to political prosecutions.
