Thousands of citizens peacefully gathered on Macedonia Square in the center of Skopje on the evining of March 18 to pay respect to the victims of the tragedy in Kočani. In an atmosphere of deep mourning, the citizens silently lit candles and bowed their heads to to the victims, who tragically lost their lives in the discotheque Puls.
By turning the lights on their mobile phones, the people sent a message of solidarity.
The gathering included a period of silence of 16 minutes, which started at 18:59. The number 59 was selected to symbolize the number of people who died, while 16 representing the date of the tragedy.
The silence ended with a call “glory to them” and releasing a group of black balloons towards the sky.
