In the public sector there are 128,253 employees, officials confirmed today from the Ministry of Information Society and Administration (MISA) after European Commissioner Johannes Hahn announced that the public administration in the country had 185,000 people at work. The data, according to MISA, refers to a total of 1,354 institutions, including public utilities.
“With the new Law on Public Sector Employees, which came into force in February this year, the Department received authorization to start from February 2016, to set up and maintain a register of public employees and appropriately publish annual reports. Until the full establishment of the register and preparation of the first annual report established by the new law, the Ministry uses data acquired from more relevant institutions”, said the statement.
