Mijatovik: Kezharovski’s imprisonment is a message for the daunting censorship in Macedonia

-

On her Twitter account, High Representative of the OSCE on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatovik wrote that the imprisonment of journalist Tomislav Kezharovski is a dangerous precedent for freedom of the media in Macedonia, reports portal “Lokalno.mk”.

She says that “the decision of the Skopje court for imprisonment of journalist Kezharovski sends a message for daunting censorship”.

Two days ago, Court of Appel convicted journalist Tomislav Kezharovski to two years in prison for revealing the identity of a protected witness, after which he was expressly transferred from house arrest to prison “Skopje” in Shuto Orizari yesterday.

Filip Medarski, Kezharovski’s lawyer, stated for META yesterday that he was amazed by the speed with which Kezharovski was transferred to prison and said that some procedures were not respected by the court in the case.

– The verdict was not delivered to me, or to Kezharovski. In order to meet the requirements for him to be transferred to prison, certain procedures should be fulfilled. These procedures take at least two to three weeks. We were all surprised, but I don’t expect justice to see the light of day in Macedonian courts – stated Medarski.
