Michael Roth met with Poposki, Gruevski and Zaev

The Minister of State in the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, Michael Roth, today met with Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki, President of VMRO-DPMNE, Nikola Gruevski, and the SDSM leader Zoran Zaev.

Minister Poposki at the meetings said that internal political challenges are being overcome through an inclusive process that should be completed as soon as possible and without delaying the parliamentary elections in April.

Ministers Popovski and Roth in the area of the migrant crisis both emphasized the need for finding a long-term and sustainable solution. Minister Roth welcomed the Macedonia’s commitment and stressed that cooperation between the two countries is extremely important in resolving this crisis.

At the meeting with Gruevski, Roth stated that the priority of the VMRO-DPMNE is organizing fair, free and democratic elections in which citizens will decide on the future of the state, and that elections are the only way out of this imposed political crisis. Gruevski stated that VMRO-DPMNE will give maximum support in terms of implementing a quality, fair and democratic electoral process.

For elections to be fair and democratic , a renewed voters’ list and the regulation of the media are needed, Zaev pointed out to Roth. Zaev said that Macedonia at the next election must receive a Government with full legitimacy, and that is the only possible through a fair election. According to Zaev, this is the only way to allow the normalization of the institutions and the stability of the country.
