Meta spent a day with the migrants in Gevgelija: A kilo of bananas is four euro, a bottle of water is one

-

Hundreds of migrants are waiting to give their documents to the police at the railroad station in Gevgelija, in order to get a certification which enables them to remain in Macedonia for 72 hours.

The immigrants have occupied nearly all the trees, while in the meantime, the police is trying to put the people in single files so they can get their papers sooner.

A police officer told Meta that oftentimes there is ruckus that leads to people shoving and pushing.

Some of the locals have brought improvised tables to the train station where they sell snacks, water and fruit.

A bottle of water is priced at one euro. A kilogram of bananas is sold between two and four euros.

In the vicinity of the bus station in Gevgelija there are also migrants, besides locals. One can see taxis and drivers bargaining with the migrants. A resident of Gevgelija says that she was refused a fare because the drivers earn more from the migrants.
