Before the adoption of the Law on the Use of Languages, an expert and scientific discussion should be opened regarding the specific issues regulated by this draft law, with the participation of experts from different areas – linguists (Macedonians, Albanians, specialists in the field of verbal linguistics) lawyers and sociologists.
This is the view of the Presidency of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (MANU) on the occasion of the Law on the Use of Languages, a European-flagrant procedure, that is, it should be adopted in a shortened course of action.
Macedonians, underlined, by the Academy, “should respect this and show interest in the languages of their fellow citizens and promote their linguistic rights, culture and traditions, but, conversely, representatives of other communities must show understanding, tolerance and respect for the Macedonian language, as the language of the majority people, and for its integrative, unifying function”.
