In appalling conditions in a prison in Detroit, 32-year-old David Stojcevski son of Macedonian immigrants died in custody.
David was sentenced to 30 days in jail for a fine of 772 dollars due to careless driving. When he could not pay, he was jailed and on the 17th day he died alone, in one of the cells, naked and in poor health, without medical assistance. In just 17 days he lost 25 kg.
David was a drug addict and in rehabilitation, receiving methadone therapy, but had not received a proper cell for detoxification, nor care or assistance. Once he began to behave strangely, hallucinate and talking to himself, Stojcevski was moved into a cell for observation in case of suicide, where inmates are not allowed to wear clothes for their own safety.
The video showed how his body trembling as he lay on the cold floor of the cell until his death. David died naked in the American prison.
His family claimed he was neglected while in prison and wants the world to see the agony of their son, so something like this doesn’t happen again.
