President of France, Emanuel Macron, during yesterday’s meeting at the Élysée Palace with Prime Minister Zoran Zaev stressed that North Macedonia deserves to start the negotiations without any delays and that he is personally involved in finding a solution for the dispute with Bulgaria.
In his statement, Macron stressed North Macedonia’s advancement which, according to him, has been exceptional.
“In March last year, the European Union made a decision to start the negotiations with your country and now it is time for finalizing that decision and France is actively supporting that. North Macedonia deserves to start the accession negotiations without delay. I am personally involved in finding a solution with Bulgaria,” said President Macron in his statement before the working dinner.
Prime Minister Zaev has stressed that it is very important for us that France is supporting North Macedonia’s EU accession process with clearly set standards without losing any additional time.
“What awaits is th European Council’s Summitt which is a real opportunity for a step ahead and for a solution that will remove the blockade for starting the negotiations which will be approved by all EU member countries,” stressed Zaev n his statement.
He stressed that the proposed solution by the Portuguese presidency provides a good basis and that North Macedonia is ready for bilateral dialogue that will provide a reasonable and mutually acceptable agreement as part of the Goodneighborly Agreement with Bulgaria, stressing that the issues with the Macedonian language and identity cannot be put on the negotiation table.
Prime Minister Zaev expressed special gratitude to President Macron, who, as he said, holds a special place in the development of the French- Macedonian friendship especially through the public support of the Prespa Agreement in 2018 which proved the support for North Macedonia’s reformatory agenda as well as the region’s.
Prime Minister Zaev said that with the opening of the French Development Agency’s Office in Skopje, a new dynamic of cooperation is expected including enormous possibilities for expanding the economic and financial trading, including investments in the areas of infrastructure, energetics, military industry, wastewater treatment stations and other areas.
