After nearly a month of boycotting, Macedonian students from a Tetovo high school have returned to class. However, instead of returning to their desks, they began classes standing, outside in the open, on the city square of Tetovo.
“We are aware that the boycott harmed the students most of all, and as we do not have the appropriate space where we can teach in normal and dignified conditions, we have been forced to organize classes outside in the open, in front of the offices of the Department of Education in the town square. We hope that the authorities will finally see and hear us and together we can solve the problem”, said Professor Dejan Gjurchinovski from the council of professors of the high school “Kiril Pejcinovic.”
In the past few years, Macedonian students from the Tetovo high school have been attending classes in unsuitable conditions in the building of a community college and primary school “Goce Delchev” in Tetovo.
Revolted by the situation, this year they started a protest march through the streets of Tetovo. After the protest it was decided that the children temporarily use the central building of the high school.
After a few days, the decision changed, saying it was illegal and that the management of the high school students could not be organized in just one facility.
Teaching at the city square in Tetovo will continue, as the council of professors say, until a solution to the problem of the premises is not found.
