Macedonian Prime Minister Zaev attends CEI’s Summit in Rome and appealed for a quicker consensus about the new methodology

-

The members of the Central European Initiative (CEI) out of which the majority are EU member countries, are propellants of the process of a complete integration of the Western Balkans into the EU, said Prime Minister Zaev at his speech at the CEI’s Summit in Rome.

He said that seeing this strive to help high on the EU’s agenda after the October’s Summit of the European Council is a great encouragement and he hopes these efforts will bear fruit.

“The idea of a new EU enlargement methodology is justified only if the process becomes more effective and if it produces more material gains for the countries candidates. Therefore we appeal for a fast consensus among the EU member countries about the principles and the elements of the new methodology, that will open a way for the adoption of a decision for the start of the EU accession negotiations for Macedonia. Our priority remains to start the accession negotiations as soon as possible. The passing of a decision in March will create a very favorable dynamics in our country” said Zaev.

This year, CEI marks its 30th anniversary and has confirmed the need of a greater regional cooperation that will enrich with numerous formats and initiatives such as the Process of cooperation with the countries from Southeastern Europe, the Council of Regional cooperation, the Berlin Process, the Adriatic and Ionian Initiative and many others.
