The Foreign Affairs Minister Nikola Dimitrov is visiting today the Kingdom of Spain, upon invitation by Arancha Gonzales Laya, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation
Dimitrov was informed that the ratification of the Accession Protocol was already started at the Spanish Parliament and it is expected to be adopted tomorrow by the Committee for Foreign Affairs and next week it will be put to vote at a plenary session. After that the procedure will continue at the senate. The expectations are that the whole procedure will finish by the end of March.
Minister Dimitrov and Gonzales Laya have talked about our region’s EU perspectives in the light of the European Commission’s new methodology concerning accession methodology. An expectation was expressed that in March all of the efforts and reformatory activities will be valorised which will contribute to receiving a positive decision for starting accession negotiations with the European Union.
During the visit, Dimitrov has met with the President of the Congress of Deputies Meritxell Batet who presented the expected time frame for the ratification process.
