Kurz: Balkans is our priority, EU should end negotiations with Turkey

-

The agreement between Skopje and Athens proves that persistent negotiations and diplomacy bring results, says Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz in an interview with the Greek daily Kathimerini, and he went on to stress the Austrian support for the European perspective of the Western Balkan countries.

“We warmly welcome the agreement between the two sides. It proves that persistent negotiations and diplomacy bring results. For Austria, the Western Balkan region is a top priority in our foreign and European policy, as well as our EU presidency. We support the line of Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn. Providing an honest and credible road to the EU for the Western Balkan countries serves our interests at a security, political and economic level”, said Kurz.

The Austrian Chancellor for “Kathimerini” comments that they should immediately cease negotiations between the EU and Turkey because “Turkey has been moving away from Europe and European values in recent years”.
