Kocijanchik: Recordings confirmed the fears of OSCE/ODIHR

-

Spokeswoman of Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for accession negotiations, Maja Kocijanchik, today conveyed the renewed position of Hahn about the developments in Macedonia after the “Wiretapping” scandal.

“We have already expressed our deep concern about what is disclosed in the country about interference in court cases, media freedom and, now, for electoral irregularities. We expect the institutions in the country to do their work and to defend the fundamental values – now. While observing previous elections, OSCE/ODIHR expressed concern about the ambiguous boundary between state and party, intimidation of voters and biased media. Recent findings of intercepted conversations seem to confirm these fears, which would be deeply disturbing. We expect the competent authorities to investigate these allegations immediately on a transparent, independent, impartial and credible manner. European Commission reiterates that public officials should behave responsibly and take responsibility for their actions,” said Kocijanchik.
