The EU Commission has been introduced with the Macedonian government’s decision to declare an emergency situation for the south and north border zones and is in contact with government officials and UNHCR.
-At this phase, the Commission is monitoring closely how events are developing and the measures which are undertaken now or later by the government. We are determining the facts- commented for Meta Maja Kocijancic, the spokesperson of the EU Commissioner for Expansion Johanes Hahn.
Kocijancic said the EU has secured 90,000 euro in humanitarian aid for dealing with the crisis. She added that the Commission is ready to offer additional help.
– The EC is finalizing the support program for the region to be able to deal with the migrant crisis. West Balkan countries and Turkey will receive 8 million euro to implement the program beginning September, added Kocijancic.
