Kocijančič: We will closely monitor the elections, they are an opportunity for a fresh start

-

The European Union will closely monitor the elections on Sunday, and the EU is expected to give their initial reaction regarding the outcome on Monday afternoon, December 12, said Maja Kocijančič, a spokesperson from the European Commission.

“In terms of what the next step will be, we, of course, will closely monitor the elections, as we have done with the whole process until the elections. Of course, there will be international observers on the ground and we will also be waiting for their report, after which I expect we will have a response sometime on Monday afternoon”, said Kocijančič.

She stressed that the early parliamentary elections in Macedonia are an opportunity for the country to make a fresh start and return to the path of European integration.

“As we have said several times in relation to these elections, they are an opportunity for the country to make a fresh start, to unite around strategic objectives and return to the path of European integration. Obviously, this is just one step in a much longer process, as part of the process of the Pržino Agreement, it is clear that what was agreed under this contract will have to continue to be implemented”, emphasized Kocijančič.
