Kocijancic: There aren’t even minimum conditions for elections on June 5, leaders can not pretend that everything is alright

-

There aren’t even minimum conditions for credible elections on June 5th, which would be recognized by the International Community, and the Government which would come out of those elections, said European Commission spokesperson Maja Kocijancic to ‘Deutsche Welle’.

According to Kocijancic, in the current conditions, any government that emerges from the elections in which the three major parties (SDSM, DUI and DPA NB) do not participate, will not be a credible partner for the International Community.

In her statement she recalls the necessity of cleansing the electoral roll, providing balanced media reporting, investigations into threats against voters and urges all political leaders and authorities in the country to take decisive steps to cope with the situation, and respect the Przhino Agreement.

“We also urgently need leaders to cope with solving problems with the rule of law without further delay. This particularly applies to the withdrawal of the presidential pardons. Justice must prevail and it must be transparent. It’s the only way to restore the citizens’ trust in state institutions, to put an end to the current tensions and preserve the rule of law in the country, “said Kocijancic.

The EC spokesperson warned that the latest moves will have “serious consequences.”

“Political leaders can not pretend that everything is all right. The latest moves and future failures will have serious consequences, ” said Kocijancic in her statement.
