Kocijančič: Macedonian institutions to secure conditions for free elections

-

The European Commission has called upon the institutions in Macedonia, after a series of incidents during the campaign for the local elections, to secure conditions for organizing free elections.

“Ahead of the local elections, we encourage all representatives of political parties to act responsibly. We call on all institutions to ensure conditions for a credible and transparent electoral process allowing all citizens to exercise their democratic rights freely”, said the spokesperson of the European Union, Maja Kocijančič.

Reactions from Brussels comes after yesterday’s attack on the current Mayor of Shuto Orizari, Elvis Bajram, who is running for another term. Yesterday evening, Bajram was attacked with metal bars and wooden sticks in Shuto Orizari. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was hospitalized and the police has identified and summoned five persons for questioning regarding the assault.
