The campaign can start NOW!

The leaders of the two biggest political parties in Macedonia, Nikola Gruevski and Zoran Zaev, seem weary of leaving matters to unfold by probability. Immediately after the returned from their summer vacations, they took on active political campaigning in anticipation of the early Parliamentary elections scheduled for April next year.

The pre-elections campaign, if it can be called so, was initiated by Gruevski. The unofficial maxim of his VMRO-DPMNE is “The campaign never stops.”

After returning from vacation in Israel, the Government of Gruevski began to alter or completely annul some of the controversial laws, such as the law for part-time workers contributions. His party also lowered the fines that businesses may incur. Following this, the Prime Minister and leader of VMRO-DPMNE toured Ohrid, Resen, Demir Hisar and Prilep. On the tour his party members cut the ribbon of new playgrounds and beaches and announced foreign investments.

Gruevski’s activities will be answered by SDSM’s Zoran Zaev in an identical fashion, after he returned from vacation several days ago.

According to the agenda that was announced by SDSM, Zaev, who was accompanied by the party’s general secretary Oliver Spasovski, will visit the communities in municipalities Mavrovo-Rostushe and Centar Zhupa.

In the meantime, both leaders showed signs of good will and optimism about implementing the Przhino Agreement. Gruevski announced that observing the deadlines is possible if the opposition is constructive in the talks. Zoran Zaev officially announced yesterday that his party will returned to the National Assembly on September 1, adding that the “Przhino Agreement will result in a series of law proposals that SDSM will vote for,” which includes the new special public prosecutor.
